Michael Grady 1865 Derreentighe

Sorry if I posted before!

Michael Grady, court sessions, Feb 5 1865:

Close up:

This is likely great-great-grandfather Michael. There's a death registered for a Michael Grady in 1867, but it doesn't appear to be him (wrong town and townland):
It would be great to know if the entry below Michael's for John Kenny of Cloonchambers is connected to Michael on that day. Michael's son Patrick (Thomas's brother) marries a Catherine Kenny.

But we know he is deceased by 1876 at the time of his son's Thomas's marriage to Mary/Mariah Dempsey.

Dempseys in Coarsefield/Farm 1858

Another item from Wendy, who found a record of the Dempseys of Farm (neighboring townland) in 1858:

Zoom:

So, Nov 5, 1858, Order Book of the Lord Lieutenant of Galway; while it says complainant and defendant, it seems to be for payment of wages:

"Laurence Dempsey, Labourer of Farm. Parish of Templetoher, Complt. Same defendants as No 8.

Wages amount 14/= being for his services up to the 25th December next, having been discharged by defendant without cause on the 21st Oct 1858. "

"William Dempsey, Labourer of Farm. Complainant. Same defendants as No 8.

Wages amount 16/= Balance due Complainant for his services ending 23rd May 1858"

No 8 on top list the defendant as "Edward Hannelly of BiddysHannelly (?), Landholders of Coarsefield. Defendant"

Laurence Dempsey is listed as sponsor on Anne Dempsey's baptism in 1856, which likely mean he is Thomas's brother.

(Will need to post that image later ...)

Thomas Dempseys, etc

Griffith's for neighboring townland of Moorfield (Morefield, Coarsefield) from 1857:

http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/z/zoomifyDynamicViewer.php?file=114094&path=./pix/114/&rs=35&showpage=1&mysession=2793975758654&width=&height=

Thomas Dempsey has plot #23. I included Fenerty plot #18 as likely his is related to Thomas's wife Mary. Also included Flanagan, #30, as they are likely related to John Dempsey's wife.

Map:

http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/single_layer/i8.php?lat=&longt=&dum=0&sheet=1&mysession=2793975758654&info=&place=&county=GALWAY&placename=MOORFIELD&parish=TEMPLETOGHER&country=Ireland&union=&barony=BALLYMOE

#23 is the triangle in dead center on the map. The townland of Farm is to the lower right. Derreenteige is to the upper left.

This info on Moorfield because .... Wendy has been looking through the DNA matches ... it appears that the Thomas Dempsey of Moorfield is a closer genetic relation than the Thomas Dempsey of Cloonreliagh. So instead of TD/Moorfield being a distant cousin, TD/Cloonreliagh is the distant cousin.

TD/Moorfield is likely brother to great-great grandfather Bernard.

So, when Martin O'Grady goes to stay with Anne Dempsey Reynolds at 139 Sullivan Street, he would have been going to stay with his aunt (his mother Mariah's first cousin).

Note: the Moorfield graveyard is the circular formation in the lower center of the map (by 25a/27a).

more Sullivan Street

From Wendy DeRiancho, who found Mary Dempsey also stays at Sullivan Street (although long after Martin O'Grady has left):

From Wendy: "Mary's parents were John Dempsey/Mary Flanagan.  John is a son of Thomas Dempsey/Mary Finnerty.

Mary seems to come to the US, stay a few years, get married, and RETURN to Ireland with her husband to Limerick."

Mary's father John is brother to Anne Dempsey Reynolds, who is key to all this Sullivan Street hospitality.

Somehow, Anne's father Thomas Dempsey is related to Martin's mother Mariah Dempsey Grady ... still not sure how.

Here's Mary's birth, 1903:

more to come ...
