townlands

 A note on townlands.

Great site to navigate by townland, and go to 1901/1911 census and Griffith's Valuation:

This is a breakdown of all the parishes in Roscommon (from https://leitrim-roscommon.com/MAPS/ros_par.html)

Kiltullagh sticks out on the extreme left, #44.

Kilkeevin is to the right, #32.

Ballintubber is to the right of that, #4.

This is a breakdown of Kiltullagh townlands:

On the far RIGHT is our area of interest:

50 - Derreentighe (Thomas Grady)

37 - Cloonreliagh (Mariah Dempsey)

58 - Foxborough (James Grady)

67 - Keyfield -- Mariah Dempsey’s brother William (John Lyons grandfather?)

Across the border into Galway is the townland of Castlefield, home of Thomas O’Grady’s brother Patrick. Castlefield is located below the curve on the map above formed by Derreentighe, Cloonreliagh, and Foxborough. Trying to find Galway townlands map!

Cloondacara (Bridget Harte’s) is in neighboring parish of Kilkeevin (#32 on top map).

Interesting note:  Katherine Regan (Martin's wife) said she was born in Mayo (which is true), but the records shows it as Roscommon. Here’s why:

Here is townland map of Kilkeevin:

#42 on bottom left is Creggameen. The Raftery's are from here; this borders Derreentighe in Kiltullagh.
#29 in center near bottom is Cloondacarra, Harte's townland.
#72 Trien --- parish church?

Handy map to find registration offices/districts:

#15, left, is Clooneykerny, where Hartes are originally from.
