In essence, Irish placenames were established in the Ordnance Survey in the 1830s. They tried to keep notes on the various names encountered before settling and establishing a spelling.

We've heard some wrong history behind the Cloonreliagh name, but it likely really means "Reilly's Meadow" or "meadow of oaks". The "wrong meanings" were supposed to have been associated with the famine, but the name existed well before then.

So Derreentighe really means "Tadhg's woods". "Given the Tadghs in the family, how ironic!
